Workshop participants will receive:  Informative Apitherapy (therapeutics of the beehive products) seminar including handouts and samples.  Information with regard –“How-To” do a Beeswax, Ear-candling treatment (hands-on). Time also allotted  for question and sharing period – Also includes lunch, tea.

APITHERAPY SYMPOSIUM

December 11-13,2008:

In order to communicate and integrate Apitherapy among the Canadian beekeepers that will take part at the Niagara Falls Conference, we are including some Apitherapy related topics among the activities organized by our fellow Canadian beekeepers.

So, Mark your calendars NOW, for a three-day Apiculture Conference, in Niagara Falls, Ontario – Canada. The OBA will host the, ‘Beekeeper's Research Symposium’, on December 11-13, 2008.  This venue will also be host to Annual meeting for the CHC (Canadian Honey Council's-AGM) and CAPA (Canadian Association of Professional Apiculturalist's).

Some of pre-final program including Apitherapy activities, looks like this:

Speakers/Presenters for the Beekeeper’s Convention – ‘Research Symposium', will include the following tentative topics: Super Markets: Is Big Really Better, Noseama ceranae Research, Virus research, Using Ozone to Control Honey Bee Disease and Relating Apitherapy to Beekeepers”, John Gibeau, Honeybee Centre, Surry, British Columbia, just to name a few…

The Conference offers an opportunity to attend Sat. morning (9:00am-noon) “Break-out”(workshop) sessions, with the following categories:

1. Bee Breeding         

2. Pollination  

3. Honey Safety & Quality

4. Apitherapy - including hands-on demo’s in: BVT (Stefan Board, Ontario & Don Downs, USA); Legality of BVT in Canada” (John Gibeau, B.C.) ; Beeswax Ear-Cone-Candling (Annie vanAlten, Ontario);  Propolis salve making (Frederique Keller, USA)

Also plan to sign-up for the Saturday afternoon Beekeeper’s bus tour, including lunch, a local honey house, butterfly conservatory & Niagara meadery.

Tentatively, being considered –

 An evening + 2 day – “Apitherapy Symposium/Field Day”, possibly in, or near Guelph. It will be held, likely in June 2009 . Would like to invite Beekeeper’s, Acupuncturist’s, Naturopathic Doctor’s, Apitherapists, & Apitherapy related Vendors, etc. Many local and international speakers and presenters, will be invited & would like to include some hands-on aspects of Apitherapy- live bees will be available. I Welcome folks interested in participating, being involved in planning, etc. & anyone you know anyone interested, be happy to hear from them.   Have enlisted (not all have confirmed) some potential presenter’s:  Michael Simics, BVT (B.C.); Frederique Keller, Acupuncturist (N.Y.); Catherine Flurin, Bio-beekeeper (France); Stefan Board, beekeeper/BVT (Ontario); John Gibeau, Apiarist (B.C.); Paul Kelly, Apiarist Uni. Of Guelph (Ont.) & Annie vanAlten, Apitherapy consultant (Ont.), have all indicated an interest to participate. Stay tuned as more information becomes available (through web-site).
